The American University of Madaba organized a special celebration on the occasion of the birthday of His Majesty King Abdullah II, under the patronage of His Excellency, the Governor of Madaba, Dr. Khalid Al-Armouti.
The honored guests were received by Dr. Nabil Ayoub, president of the university, and by some administrative and academic staff. The celebration was attended by representatives of all government and civil sectors in Madaba, by some community elders, clerics, deputies and senators of Madaba, as well as news agencies, journalists, students and staff members.
The Jordanian National Anthem introduced the event, followed by a welcoming speech of Dr. Nabil Ayoub, where he welcomed the esteemed attendees, and praised the role of His Majesty the King in the education paradigm. He acknowledged the special attention given by His Majesty the King, in the advancement of education and the educational process as a whole. He then quoted from the fifth discussion paper issued by His Majesty in September 2014 titled,“Universities should play a greater role in contributing to the production of ideas, and research that provides solutions to the challenges faced by the Kingdom, constantly investing in scientific research". Dr. Ayoub then explained AUM’s role in education and academic fields in Jordan and thanked all those who attended and contributed to the success of this event .
Coinciding with Arbor Day the Director of the Department of Agriculture, Eng. Fayyad Huwarat, pointed out in his speech the close relationship between the department and the university. He noted the excellent cooperation and facilities offered by the department in providing the university with trees to be planted in the campus to contribute in creating a clean and green environment.
The ceremony also included a number of poems, art and music provided by the university band and by the art folk band of Ibn Taymiyyah School. A short film was also presented in this ceremony which briefly talked about the most important stages of the life of King Abdullah II.
At the end of the ceremony, the university president, Dr. Nabil Ayoub thanked the Governor of Madaba and he presented him with an appreciation shield. The AUM President also distributed shields of appreciation to all those who contributed to the success of this event.
In closing, all attendees were asked to walk behind the music band of the gendarmerie until they reached the planting area, where many attendees had the chance to plant a tree.
