The American University of Madaba held its first Model United Nations’ Conference (AUMUN) under the patronage of HE Dr. Yousef Shawarbeh, Secretary General of Greater Amman Municipality, Saturday 29th April, 2017.
The opening ceremony included several speeches by HE Dr. Shawarbeh, and by AUM President, Prof. Nabil Ayoub and by one of the delegates. These speeches emphasized the importance of students' participation in these conferences to enhance their civic knowledge, civic skills and civic dispositions.
In its three sessions, the conference discussed several critical issues affecting the future of societies and countries. Three councils were included to discuss human rights' issue, especially the issues of children and women affected by wars in their countries, as well as highlighting the refugees’ situation.
The conference discussed the economic situation, the issue of money laundering and how it affects the country's economy.
The third council discussed, in the presence of MP Andrei Hawari, the mechanism by which laws are passed in Jordan.
The dialogue sessions have been run by a group of university students from all disciplines who sought at the end of the conference to come up with useful recommendations as well as proposing practical solutions to these issues and positions.
