AUM Welcomes Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See in Jordan and Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Jordan
The American University of Madaba (AUM) was honored to welcome H.E. Archbishop Giovanni Pietro Dal Toso, Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See in Jordan, and H.E. Kim Pil-woo, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Jordan, accompanied by distinguished delegations from both embassies, in a visit that resonated deeply with the university’s mission, values, and global orientation.
The visit provided a holistic platform to engage with AUM’s identity as a non-profit institution and the first university in Jordan to institutionalize the concept of a sustainable campus as a governing philosophy rather than a technical add-on. Discussions emphasized how sustainability at AUM is embedded across teaching, research, and learning design, shaping curricula, informing research priorities, guiding ethical governance, and strengthening meaningful engagement with local communities. Discussions highlighted the university’s approach to student development and academic excellence, alongside its recent achievement of candidacy status with the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE), a significant milestone reflecting AUM’s dedication to international standards, quality assurance, and institutional advancement.
Conversations also highlighted AUM’s strategic commitment to internationalization as a core academic imperative. Particular focus was placed on building partnerships with universities across the world, including Korean universities and innovation ecosystems, known for their leadership in high-tech industries, applied research, and knowledge-driven economic models. These collaborations align with AUM’s vision of preparing students for global citizenship while fostering cross-border research, innovation, and cultural exchange.
The visit concluded with an integrated walkthrough of the university’s academic environment, offering insight into how AUM translates its vision into practice.
